Here is one of my favorite free patterns made available by DROPS designs.  This is an easy knit pattern with charts and videos to help you complete the pattern.  The pattern is a simple knit and purl pattern process.   Instead of adding the crochet stem here try ciniching  

  up the top of the pumpkin and adding that cute little cinnamon stick instead.  

This is a really fun and easy way to make a knit pumpkin for the holidays without having to actually knit or crochet anything, it just looks like you did! :)
